Used Cars Manager

Key Responsibilities
Programme Development & Strategy
- Develop and launch BYD South Africa's used car programme, tailored to the unique characteristics of NEVs.
- Design and implement a
buy-back programme
that supports new vehicle sales, leasing models, and customer retention. - Define operational processes, KPIs, and governance structures for the remarketing function.
Residual Value Management
- Lead efforts to
monitor, protect, and enhance residual values
of BYD vehicles through strategic pricing, lifecycle planning, and market positioning. - Collaborate with finance, leasing, and insurance partners to align residual value forecasts with market realities.
- Analyze depreciation trends and develop strategies to mitigate value erosion, particularly for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
- Work closely with product planning and sales teams to ensure that vehicle specifications and pricing support long-term value retention.
- Develop tools and reporting systems to track residual value performance and market competitiveness.
Fleet & Used Vehicle Operations
- Manage the resale of BYD's internal fleet vehicles, including demo units, company cars, and buy-back returns.
- Oversee vehicle reconditioning, valuation, and pricing to maximize resale performance.
- Ensure compliance with BYD's quality standards and sustainability goals.
Dealer Network Enablement
- Build and manage a digital or physical platform for distributing used BYD vehicles to the dealer network.
- Develop dealer training and incentive programmes to support used vehicle sales.
- Maintain strong relationships with dealers to ensure alignment with BYD's brand and remarketing objectives.
Market Intelligence & Compliance
- Conduct market research to understand pricing trends, customer preferences, and competitor activity in the used NEV segment.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and BYD's global standards.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to senior management on programme performance and opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Automotive Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in automotive remarketing, fleet management, or used car operations.
- Proven experience in
residual value management
, ideally within an OEM, leasing, or financial services environment. - Strong understanding of New Energy Vehicles (EVs, PHEVs) and their impact on remarketing strategies.
- Experience working with dealer networks and digital sales platforms.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
