Managing Director (f/m/x) South Africa – Building Components

The Company

The family-owned company is headquartered in Germany and develops, manufactured and sells products for the construction supplies industries. The internationally active group operates in more than 40 countries worldwide, with around 30 production sites in 15 countries, and employs over 5,400 people with an annual turnover exceeding 1.2 billion euros.

The company is a global market leader in its fields offering system solutions for various applications in the construction industry.

The Position

The "Managing Director South Africa (f/m/x)" has the operational (sales, finance, administration and supply chain) as well as the commercial responsibility for the local subsidiary and reports to the Regional Manager of the so-called SWEG sub-group as well as the management board in the holding. The subsidiary in South Africa is a sales and production company with sales, administration, production and logistics staff totalling 40 employees. The local management team consists of the finance manager, the logistics manager and the production manager.

Main Responsibilities

  • Full P&L, operational and financial responsibility for the South African subsidiary
  • Development and implementation of country business plans and strategies for short, medium and long-term business development
  • Identifying and assessing new business opportunities and recommending appropriate measures to senior management
  • Setting targets for the entire unit as well as each subsidiary function
  • Conducting the annual planning process for the subsidiary and the sales region in coordination with the product management and senior management
  • Conducting negotiations with suppliers and other business partners.
  • Manages external relations to develop and maintain high level contacts with industry and business associations, government agencies, interest groups and key customers
  • Supporting corporate values by setting an example in personal integrity, team play and shared responsibility across hierarchical levels
  • Timely and correct preparation of the regular reporting documents to the central controlling department and senior management

Maintaining internal and external contacts to:

  • Senior Group management
  • Internal departments (R&D, manufacturing, logistics, admin)
  • Product management
  • Key Customers
  • Business partners and suppliers

The Requirements

Educational and professional background:

  • A individual with a university degree in commerce, business administration or engineering and a proven track record in growing profitable B2B sales preferably in the building / construction industry
  • A different educational background is possible if the incumbent has a proven track record in a similar position
  • Strong sales background – at least 10 years practical experience in B2B sales in the fields of building supplies or construction
  • At least five years' experience in a senior managerial position
  • Ability to understand and manage financial aspects of the business
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is a must
