The Gelykheid Foundation (English: The Equality Foundation) is a non profit organisation that aims to unlock opportunities for capable South Africans, particularly in township communities, through high-impact entrepreneurial and financial literacy courses. By delivering monthly Basic Entrepreneurial and Financial Literacy courses, we empower individuals to transition from informal hustles to structured, income-generating enterprises. Our scalable model is designed to be low cost, high energy, and deeply rooted in South African realities, focusing on economic and social equality. We believe in nation-building from the ground up to create a consistently growing economy that benefits all.

Role Description

This is a part-time, voluntary, hybrid role for Non-Executive Directors (6) located, ideally, in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area. Each director will provide strategic guidance and governance oversight while maintaining flexibility to work from home. Responsibilities include attending 4 board meetings per annum, contributing to strategic decision-making, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and supporting the leadership team in achieving the Foundation's mission.

Time commitment: Less than 12 hours per quarter

Remuneration: Pro-bono

Contract duration: 15 January 2026 to 14 January 2027 (renewable)

Qualifications

  • Degree/BTech (minimum)
  • Seasoned Accounting/Finance/Auditing professional (2)
  • Seasoned Legal/Compliance professional (2)
  • Seasoned Marketing/Brand/People and Culture/HR professional (2)
  • Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and funding opportunities (for Seasoned accounting/finance/auditing professionals)
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
  • Understanding of social enterprises, community development, and economic equality
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience in the South African non-profit sector is a plus
  • Commitment to the Foundation's mission and values
