Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

A Pietermaritzburg based Company in the NPO sector is looking to employ a highly skilled Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team. This person will act as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, overseeing all financial functions while ensuring the organisation's long-term financial sustainability. The ideal candidate will not only be technically strong but also passionate about the non-profit sector, with a deep understanding of South African financial, regulatory, and governance requirements.

Job Objectives:

  1. Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the CEO, Board, and senior management.

  2. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, investments, and statutory reporting.

  3. Ensure compliance with South African statutory requirements, including SARS, CIPC, NPO/NGO regulations, Companies Act, PFMA (if applicable), and donor compliance standards.

  4. Manage audits, risk assessments, and internal controls to ensure transparency and accountability.

  5. Oversee cash flow management, investment strategies, and financial sustainability initiatives.

  6. Lead the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.

  7. Develop and maintain relationships with donors, partners, auditors, and financial institutions.

  8. Support grant management processes, including proposal budgeting and donor reporting.

REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION IN TERMS OF SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CA(SA) or equivalent professional financial qualification.
  • Minimum of 6 years as senior financial management experience, ideally within the non-profit sector or a similarly complex environment.
  • Strong knowledge of South African financial legislation, tax compliance, and governance practices.
  • Experience with donor-funded organisations and grant management.
  • Proven experience in financial strategy, risk management, and organisational sustainability.
  • High level of integrity, ethical leadership, and mission-driven focus.

SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

· Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.

· Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.

· Attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).

ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Must have a valid driver's license

· Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
