Environment, Health and Safety Manager

This position is responsible for managing the implementation of strategic environmental, health and safety compliance risk mitigation programs, including data systems, services and monitoring regimes that evaluate operational controls and processes, communication strategies and awareness campaigns, in light of evolving business needs and internal and industry data, in order to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations in alignment with the Walmart Environmental Health and Safety strategy in coordination with the Environmental Health and Safety SME.
This position must manage, monitor, report and communicate on implemented strategies in Massmart Home Office and distribution centers to cultivate an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics while developing and leveraging internal and external partnerships and networks to achieve business goals.
FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direction and support for the Regional Markets
- Serves as an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for the Massmart Home Office and distribution centers business operations
- Manages, analyses and reports on Massmart Home Office and distribution centers EHS objectives and operations
- Manages, monitors, reports on and recommends process improvements and communicates effectively to achieve awareness
- Manages the implementation and alignment of environmental health and safety strategies, plans and practices into business
- Manages, monitors and supports the operational implementation and effectiveness of the Market standards into the Home Office EHS management system including legislative requirements and national standards
- Analyses trend and forecasts and incorporates them into Massmart Home Office and distribution centers compliance business plans
- Engages with the Massmart Home Offices ,distribution centers and provides the necessary tools to ensure compliance across the environment, health and safety subject matter
- Actively manages, monitors, reviews and continually improves Environment Health and Safety performance across the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
- Analyses feedback from all stakeholders to identify potential risk areas and develops mitigating action plans together with the EHS SME
- Manages and monitors compliance through development, implementation and review of the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers environmental health and safety management tools and systems
- Manages, monitors and proposes EHS management system and process improvements across the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
- Manages and evaluates operational processes and makes strategic recommendations to the EHS SME to ensure compliance across the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
- Measures outcomes to ensure desired results identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities
- Promotes a customer centric environment
- Manages adaptability of the Massmart Home Office and distribution centers EHS management system and supports continuous learning and development opportunities
Global policies and standard operating procedures
- Reviews and make recommendations to the EHS SME regarding the implementation of data systems and tools to ensure knowledge of global trends and standards, and country legislation, regulations and local requirements
- Manages, understands and aligns the cross-functional development of policies for environmental, health and safety programs across the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
Implementation of strategic risk mitigation programs, data systems, and services
- Manages, reviews and supports the development of cross-functional efforts to implement cost-effective strategies, programs, and sustainable services that mitigate environmental, health and safety risks
- Manages, reviews and supports the implementation and execution of mitigation programs analyzing data systems, and services
- Manages, monitors and review business objectives and Massmart Home Office and distribution centers needs to identify cost effective use of third party safety service providers
- Manages, evaluates and measures operational program processes in order to close compliance gaps and continually improve programs and services
Create environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics
- Support ethics and integrity values into all programs and practices
- Monitor and report consequences for the handling of health and safety violations or non-compliances
- Supports the companies "Open Door Policy"
Maximize the achievement of business goals by developing and leveraging internal and external partnerships and networks
- Together with the EHS SME where appropriate, articulates corporate positions on compliance matters to regulators and external agencies and directs involvement with regulators at national, provincial and local levels to ensure compliance with all legal requirements for the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
- Manages the development of external relationships and alliances in order to strengthen the Massmart Home Office and distribution centers reputation, leading regulatory outreach meetings, while ensuring that the compliance program, policies, procedures and reports are communicated in a persuasive, accurate and understandable way and that sensitive data is protected
- Manage regulatory investigations, contacts and examinations and reports back to the EHS SME on the outcomes
- Acts as a strategic partner to the EHS SME, manages, initiates and monitors policies, guidelines, procedures and awareness campaigns to drive compliance with environmental health and safety laws and influence related strategy across the Massmart Home Offices
Support to the coordination of Market representation to country, state, and local regulatory agencies and external organizations
- Provides support to the EHS SME with the development of Market positions on environmental health and safety regulatory matters
- Provides support to the EHS SME with regulators at national and local levels to ensure facility compliance with environmental health and safety issues across the Massmart Home Offices and distribution centers
Requirements:
Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications and Experience required for this position
- Health and Safety degree or suitable alternative (auditing/risk/compliance), business qualification or relevant work experience (6-8 years' work experience required).
