Overview

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and automation processes to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure software delivery. The role bridges development and operations, enabling faster releases, improved system performance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

CI/CD & Automation

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, testing, and deployment.
  • Implement automation for repetitive operational tasks, infrastructure provisioning, and configuration management.
  • Ensure smooth integration between development and production environments.

Cloud Infrastructure Management

  • Deploy, manage, and monitor cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP – depending on your environment).
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
  • Optimise cloud resources for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

System Reliability & Monitoring

  • Set up and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging systems (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Perform root-cause analysis and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Enhance system reliability through SRE practices and automation of recovery mechanisms.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement DevSecOps principles, including automated security scanning in CI/CD.
  • Manage secrets, identity, and access (Vault, IAM, Azure AD, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with security and governance standards.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with developers, architects, QA teams, and product owners to support the full software lifecycle.
  • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Support production environments, including on-call rotation where required.

Containerisation & Orchestration

  • Manage container platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Maintain clusters, deployments, scaling rules, and service meshes.
  • Implement best practices for container security and image management.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems and networking fundamentals.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript or similar).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Knowledge of version control (Git) and branching strategies.
  • Familiarity with microservices, APIs, and modern application architectures.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on automation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 4+ years experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, System Administration, or related roles.
  • Certifications in AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, or DevOps methodologies are beneficial.
