The Division of Family Medicine invites applications for the above full-time, permanent position. This senior lecturer post (academic clinical pay line; medical specialist in family medicine) will strengthen our team and provide a suitable candidate with an opportunity to pursue a full-time scholarly role in family medicine and primary care. This position aims to coordinate the postgraduate educational programmes in the Division of Family Medicine, specifically the postgraduate diploma and MMed programmes.

Requirements:

• Registered and in good standing with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner and Medical Specialist (Family Medicine).
• MBChB with a postgraduate qualification in family medicine, specifically a Master's degree in Family Medicine (MMed, MPraxMed, MFamMed) and FCFP(SA).
• Five years of post-community service in diagnostic clinical practice (at the primary care level) in the public or private healthcare sectors.
• Two years of clinical teaching, learning and supervision experience with postgraduate students.
• Familiarity with the South African healthcare system.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Organisational ability, planning and effective time management.
• Computer skills related to Microsoft Office 365.
• Access to own transport to visit clinical sites and other off-campus meeting venues.

Advantageous:

• Any formal academic teaching, learning, and assessment experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate students at a higher education institution.
• A postgraduate qualification in health sciences education will be advantageous.
• Experience in research and postgraduate research supervision.
• Experience in participating in and leading community-oriented primary care projects in partnership with community stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Provide academic and clinical leadership and management within the Division of Family Medicine.
• Serve as the convenor for postgraduate programmes, overseeing the MMed and Postgraduate Diploma.
• Ensure quality assurance, risk management, and adherence to academic governance processes.
• Facilitate connections between the Division, Department, Faculty and external stakeholders.
• Directly and indirectly supervise registrars on the clinical platform.

The incumbent will report to the head of the division and work closely with course convenors in the department. The appointment will be on the UCT Academic Clinical Conditions of Service. The annual cost of employment, including benefits, will be based on the University's clinical academic pay line, which is aligned with OSD rates.
