The School of Languages and Literatures (SLL), in the Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a permanent appointment as Lecturer in Arabic Language and Literature. SLL houses full academic teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in an interdisciplinary environment comprising a dozen scholarly fields related to the study of national, continental, and global as well as modern and classical languages and literatures. It engages increasingly with questions about transnational and "Global South" identities and contributes to the University's transformation purpose "Vision 2030".

The Arabic Language and Literature section currently offers an Undergraduate major. Arabic is also offered on postgraduate level (Honours, Research Masters and PhD). The section's major aim is to ensure the delivery of excellent undergraduate teaching, to strengthen and diversify our graduate programme and to develop a stronger research culture in the section.

To consolidate the section's programmes and to complement the expertise of current staff, the School of Languages and Literatures, in association with the Hajee Sullaiman Shahmahomed Trust, invites applications for a permanent lecturer position for appointment as soon as possible.

• Completed PhD or PhD degree by the time of appointment in Arabic Language and Literature, or a related field.
• A strong command of Modern Standard Arabic (oral & written)
• Experience in teaching Modern Arabic language and literature to 2nd language students at a tertiary or university level
• Evidence of active research and scholarly engagement  

ADVANTAGEOUS:

• Administrative skills
• Evidence of an active research strategy and publications 
• Experience in supervision of student research 
• Experience or interest in interdisciplinary work
• Experience of project management or tutor-team building
• Experience or interest in internationalisation (e.g. study abroad programmes)

• Teaching and convening Arabic Language and Literature from beginners to advanced level.
• Active engagement in research and publication
• Academic administration
• Active contribution to the Section's research projects and the School's research culture
• Contribute to scholarship and social responsiveness
