About the Role
We're looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to join our product and web experience team at HOSTAFRICA. In this role, you will contribute to the development, and optimization of high-performance WordPress websites and tools that power our hosting business. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and marketing teams to create scalable, secure, and user-centric experiences for customers across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development, maintenance, and optimization of HostAfrica's brand of websites and WordPress-based landing pages.
Build custom WordPress themes tailored to business needs, ensuring scalability and performance.
Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate wireframes and mockups into responsive, accessible, and interactive interfaces.
Ensure cross-browser compatibility, fast loading times, and mobile responsiveness across all pages.
Integrate APIs (e.g., WHMCS)
Conduct performance audits and security checks to maintain code quality and reliability.
Optimize hosting environments and deployment workflows, collaborating with the DevOps team.
Stay updated on the latest WordPress releases, plugin ecosystems, and hosting technologies.
Implement Technical SEO best practices, including schema markup, metadata, canonical tags, , XML sitemaps, and structured data for improved search visibility.
Monitor and optimize Core Web Vitals, site speed, crawlability, and indexation using tools like Google Search Console and Lighthouse.
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of professional experience in WordPress development (agency or SaaS environment preferred).
Strong understanding REST APIs.
Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap5, Javascript, PHP.
Proven experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch.
Experience integrating WordPress with WHMCS, cPanel, or domain management systems is a strong plus.
Familiarity with page builders and custom block development.
Solid knowledge of web performance optimization and security best practices.
Experience with Bitbucket, CI/CD, and staging environments.
Comfortable collaborating in Agile or Scrum environments.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
