Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) - To be confirmed - Advert Closing Date - 15/6/2025 - Job Purpose Provide technical support for the department’s clinic and ophthalmic laboratory operations, including operating, monitoring, and facilitating regular maintenance of ophthalmic equipment; recordkeeping and reporting of matters relating to operations in the department’s clinic and ophthalmic laboratories; monitoring and procurement of stock and consumables, and Safety, Health, and Environmental compliance. Technical/academic support for the teaching and learning activities in the department by preparing and assisting with practicals, supervising students in the clinic and ophthalmic laboratory, as well as providing support during community engagement outreach activities. - Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience - A National Diploma in Optical Dispensing or equivalent SAQA-accredited international qualification. A higher qualification in Optical Dispensing would be an advantage. - Current registration with the HPCSA as a Dispensing Optician: Independent Practice. - At least 2 years’ experience in laboratory operations and quality control within an ophthalmic environment. - Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities - Technical/Academic support and administration within the clinic and ophthalmic laboratories. - Professional service and support to staff, students, and clinic clients. - Training and supervision of students. - Technical advisory to staff, students, and clinic clients. - Maintaining standard operating procedure documents for clinic and ophthalmic laboratories. - Accurate recordkeeping and reporting of clinic activities. - Research support within the professional discipline. - Clinic and laboratory administration and stock control. - Facilitation of equipment maintenance, repairs, and procurement. - Safety management and representation on Safety Committees. - Continuing Professional Development. - Contribute towards Quality Management in the Department. - Competencies - Excellent communication skills - Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills - Ability to communicate with all stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and industry - Excellent organisational and planning skills - Ability to work systematically and maintain a well-ordered laboratory/clinic area - Proficient in MS Office 365 - Aptitude for and commitment to continuous learning - Strong client focus and adaptability - Ability to work using initiative and interact appropriately with staff, students, and clinic clients - Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping - Report writing skills - Understanding and complying with Higher Education teaching, curriculum, and assessment principles - Understanding and complying with Quality Assurance principles and procedures in Higher Education - General Information **Closing Date**:15 June 2025 **Please note: CPUT will not be responsible for flights, travel, or relocation costs and arrangements related to this position.** **NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
