Safari Manager

To oversee the smooth, cost effective and efficient running of the Guiding Department. To lead the guiding team, to help monitor the environmental impact of the guide/safari operations and keep relationships between management and the guiding team open and efficient. Ensure that the department stay relevant and doesn’t become cookie cutter. Be a part of the hosting schedule to host meals in Camp. Be available to Guide and host.
**Daily Responsibilities**:
- Ensure Radio Protocol is followed
- Ensure sightings and guiding protocol/ethics are followed
- Ensure that the environment is respected, above all during safari operations
- Report any sensitive sighting to management (Den Sites Hyena, Leopard, Lion or Wild Dog etc
- Report any road maintenance needed to Management and closure of unnecessary roads etc
- Motivating and mentoring the guiding team
- Mentorship of trainee guides
- Facilitate training where and when needed
- Ensure guides follow rifle safety protocol
- Make sure that the lodge rifles are kept clean and in good working condition at all times, with the correct ammunition
- Ensure that guides are present and hosting during pre-dinners, early morning and brunches
- Spot checks of guide equipment
- Check that daily vehicle checks are being done
**Weekly**:
- Do guide allocations
- Ensure that guides bring their vehicles for weekly service on the correct due date and inform mechanics of vehicle issues - guides to sign 40 point check after work completed
- Ensure guides have correct vehicle equipment, and first aid kits
- Ensure guides have the correct uniform when on duty, including hosting attire
- Spend one or two days per week at each one of the Camps to do the following:
- Assessment Drives
- Spot check vehicles and condition of equipment
- Communicate with Camp on possible needs or shortcomings in the department
**Monthly**:
- To act as a mentor to all Guides within your direct area of responsibility
- Hold monthly guides meetings to discuss all topics that concern the Reserve guiding team (monthly meeting with camp head guides)
- Ensure all sightings books are up to date
- Ensure predator Summary is up to date, and submitted on time by the 30th of every month
- Ensure Monthly Wildlife reports are compiled
- Facilitate the clearing of roads when guides not guiding
- Arrange training for the department, in-house as well as external
- Check that all month end stock takes are done
- Ensure all month end reports are received on time, are accurate, complete and ready to be sent off
- Ensure all reports needed by the Guides Training department are submitted by the given due date
- Liaise with Management on ordering of equipment
- Ensure monthly newsletter is done and submitted on time

- At least 5 years Safari management experience
