Logistics Contract Manager

A logistics company in Hammarsdale, KZN is seeking a Contract Manager to oversee and manage the compliance, performance and maintenance of our truck fleet. The incumbent must lead, plan, coordinate and maintain day to day transport operations of the depot in order to meet legislative and company requirements. **Previous experience in transportation managemen**t is required. **Experience in bulk fuel** is highly advantageous. **A degree / diploma** in logistics and/or transportation management are an advantage. **Experience in management / team leadership** is essential.
**DUTIES**:
- Work closely with other Managers to coordinate systems and share policy information
- Achieve company objectives by anticipating requirements; submitting information for budget preparation; scheduling expenditures; monitoring costs;
- Complete projects by organizing and coordinating information and requirements; planning, arranging, and meeting schedules; monitoring results.
- Manage staff results alongside HR by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
- Oversee management of all equipment inventory and orchestrates/organise unit equipment and supply purchases
- Implement transportation health and safety, and security programs and activities.
- Participate in incidents investigations to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Carry out and review Route Risk Assessments, journey plans and Rest stop assessments.
- Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures.
- Ensuring drivers complies with all transport policies, legislation and procedures.
- Review all tracking reports and tachograph and feedback and coach all drivers.
- Ensure Fleet Controllers are managing duties accordingly: Eg. Brief and debriefing drivers on all trips / Coordinate all vehicle inspection with drivers’ pre and post trip.
- Attend driver safety meetings, toolbox talk and quarterly HSSE committee meetings.
- Record all feedbacks and queries from suppliers and customers.
- Ensure BVOs are made available for all refresher training and regulatory requirements.
- Identify remedial training required and coordinate BVO availability.
- Promote a Health and Safety culture at the deport alongside HSSE officer.
- Make available vehicle and tankers to meet with company service requirements.
**MAJOR CHALLENGES**:
- Manage and communicate with customers, service providers and employees.
- Managing transport movements within Southern Africa.
- Ensure that all employees comply with company requirements in a very challenging environments.
- Managing on a daily basis the Procurement to ensure mínimal disruptions to Company operations.
- Manage a number of projects at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of customers and contractors.
- The depot environment to be busy, noisy and will need excellent organizational and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
- Hours may vary and may require evening and weekend work depending on business needs.
