Maintenance Manager

Main Purpose of the Job:
The incumbent in this position will provide operational leadership to guarantee effective and efficient asset management services at all sites within the Durban site.
Minimum Education & Experience required:
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree or Diploma or equivalent
Government Certificate of Competency (Factories)
Minimum 8 years maintenance/engineering experience - preferably in the chemical/petro-chemical industry
Minimum 5 years of engineering workshop supervisory or management experience
Solid understanding of SAP maintenance systems - Preparation and management of budgets (OPEX & CAPEX)
Good understanding of SHEQ systems (OHSAS18001, ISO14001 & ISO9001)
Description of the Job:
- Management/Leadership:_
- Effectively and efficiently implement and update maintenance strategy for the business unit
- Provide input from a maintenance perspective into the Durban Business Unit
- Submit monthly maintenance reports as per departmental requirements
- Ensure that his/her department has the right structures and resources in place to deliver the necessary maintenance efficiencies
- Effective and efficient management of all human resources under his/her control with an aim to manage costs better and improve asset management/equipment reliability for the business unit
- Become a GMR 2.1 appointee for the Durban business unit
- Create and maintain positive workplace relationships
- Financial:_
- Ensure that equipment that are out of service within the business unit are effectively and efficiently brought back into service
- Ensure equipment availability is maximised through the implementation and management of maintenance strategies
- Develop and manage Maintenance OPEX budget for the business
- Ensure that the companies limits of authority within his/her area of responsibility is strictly adhered to
- SHEQ:_
- Ensure that all Incidents/CAR’s relevant to maintenance activities are reported, investigated and learnings disseminated.
- Ensure compliance to OHS Act and other industry applicable legislation
- Ensure competent staff in place in terms of legal requirements
- Ensure compliance to SHEQ systems (OHSAS18001, ISO14001 & ISO9001)
- Drive continuous improvement
- Ensure that internal and external audits are complied with and that there are no majorfindings from these audits
- Ensure that all Risk Assessments for his/her area of responsibility is completed and reviewed on a quarterly basis or as and when required.
- People:_
- Mentor, coach and develop employees by building individual and team competencies to meet set goals and objectives
- Create and maintain positive workplace relationships and communication
- Ensure that the skills development plan for the maintenance department is properly implemented
- Ensure that all IR & ER issues are appropriately and timeously dealt with
- Ensure that team and individual performance charters are in place and quarterly performance reviews done.
- Mentor and coach apprentices/learners in the department
- Maintenance:_
- Manage maintenance programme/system to enhance equipment reliability/availability
- Ensure that all new assets are captured on the system and a preventative maintenance plan is executed.
- Ensure that the maintenance management programme/system is set up to produce accurate information for reporting and decision making
- Analyse factors leading to break-downs and put in place preventative measures to prevent future failures
- Identify all critical equipment/spares and ensure that are always readily available
- Ensure that all maintenance contracts are effectively managed
- Effective contractor management
- Ensure that all statutory routines and schedules are in place and that they are effectively and efficiently executed
- Plan and execute planned and unplanned outages/shutdowns to within agreed time, cost and scope.
- Conduct shutdown/outage post mortem meetings and close gaps that have been identified
- Ensure that all engineering procedures and work instructions are kept up to date, all employees are trained to these procedures and work instructions and that all employees comply with these procedures and work instructions.
- Contribute to site optimisation program, by focusing on innovative solutions for continuous improvement
- Fulfil your role in the Management of Change (MOC) process and ensure that feedback is timeously given to the relevant stakeholders
- Stores:_
- Ensure that the spare parts are managed properly
- Ensure that all critical spares stock levels are properly managed
- Continuously review the spare parts inventories
- Ensure management of all equipment rotables
- General:_
- Execute any other responsibility that is legal and lawful and is in the best interest of the Company
- Ensure that all business systems like SAP including SAP PM, BI etc. are properly implemented and utilised
- Maintain a good relationship with all internal and external stakeholders
