Quality Control Intern

Fall Creek is creating a world with better blueberries through its friendly, collaborative team spread across the globe. To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a qualified **(Part Time) Production Quality Control Intern**. This position will be located in **Paarl, South Africa.**

**This is a fixed term contract for 6 (six) months**

This role will place a key influence in overseeing, monitoring and implementation QC protocol, within the FC processes, including, picking potting and packing procedures.

**ORGANIZATIONAL FIT**:
This position reports to the production supervisor

**JOB SETTING**:
**PERSONAL GEAR REQUIRED**:
Rain gear for outside work. Closed-toe, sturdy shoes with rubber soles, long pants, non-revealing clothing and other PPE will be required in alternative areas

**KEY ROLE IN DEPARTMENTS**
Description of Key areas of performance:
Nursery Setting, and work inside warehouse. Includes activities to assist with Quality Control methods used through the nursery, data collection
- Under direction of the Production Supervisor this person my have good attention to detail
- Organizes and manages production QC data and reports
- Onsite lead of QC protocols during the potting process
- Onsite lead of QC protocols during the packing process
- Oversee, monitor and organize the work of employees within assigned teams

- Ability to monitor plant care and nursery tasks in the job setting

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum of Grade 12
- Previous experience in an agricultural or nursery environment (advantageous)
- Bilingual skills in English and Afrikaans

Under supervision, the picking assistant performs a variety of duties within the demo block.

**ORGANIZATIONAL FIT**:
This position may report to the demo block assistant, and supervisor

**_JOB SETTING:_**
May use shovel, sprinkler, leaf blower, spraying equipment, drippers, irrigation equipment, pots and other containers, scissors, pruners, spray bottle, and handheld power tools.
Work hours may change, depending on weather, seasonal and operational requirements.
Public Holiday and weekend work may be required.

**KEY ROLE IN DEPARTMENTS**

Nursery Setting, and work inside greenhouses. Includes activities to assist with Climate Control, Roller Venting, Irrigation, Pest Management, Chemical Mixture, Sheeting, Plant Handling, Caring for Plant, Plant Health, housekeeping, Standby and Support to the department as a whole,
- Under direction, assists with the growing of the plants in demonstration
- Assist and perform manual activities on plants, based on instructions provided by supervisor
- Assist with the collection and tracks planting data and other information in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensures plants are labelled correctly
- Assist in collection and packing of fruit samples in timely manner for the season
- Assists with inventory of plants, supplies
- Assists with monitoring plant quality by watching for unusual plant appearance, plant diseases or signs of stress, pests, or other potential problems with the crop.
- Assist with irrigation and monitoring the fertigation system to ensure accurate operation.
- This includes checking irrigation drippers for blockages, identifying leakages in irrigation lines,
- Assists with after-hours events such as weather-related issues,
- Makes sure equipment is in proper operating condition and immediately notifies the supervisor if repairs are needed
- Assists with keeping work areas and the overall appearance of the facility clean and organised
- Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery
