Maintenance Assistant

**About Us**:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated **Maintenance Assistant** to provide comprehensive support to our electrician in the maintenance and repair of various facilities. This role offers exposure to diverse maintenance tasks, including **plumbing, painting, tiling, carpentry, electrical assistance, and general building repairs**. The initial appointment is a **three-month temporary contract**, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on performance and business needs.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**General Maintenance**:

- Assist in repairing and maintaining assets such as carpets, flooring, doors, and ceilings (including waterproofing, drywall installation, and repairs).
- Conduct routine facility inspections to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.

**Plumbing**:

- Diagnose and repair plumbing issues, including leaks, blockages, and pipe damage.
- Install, maintain, and replace bathroom fixtures while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

**Painting and Tiling**:

- Perform painting tasks and touch-ups on walls, ceilings, and surfaces to maintain structural and aesthetic integrity.
- Install and maintain tiles in high-traffic and moisture-prone areas, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics.

**Carpentry**:

- Conduct repairs and maintenance on wooden structures, including doors, windows, and flooring.
- Install and assemble wooden fixtures, cabinetry, and other carpentry-related elements as needed.

**Electrical Support**:

- Assist with electrical maintenance tasks and troubleshooting, working under the supervision of a licensed electrician.
- Support repairs and installations of electrical systems as required.

**Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting**:

- Quickly diagnose and resolve maintenance-related issues to minimise downtime.
- Implement efficient and cost-effective solutions for unexpected maintenance challenges.

**Collaboration & Flexibility**:

- Work closely with the electrician and other team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

**Physical & Manual Work**:

- Perform physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined or elevated spaces.

**Minimum Requirements**:
**Skills & Experience**:

- **3 - 5 years of relevant experience** in general maintenance, with verifiable references.
- **Plumbing**: Advanced knowledge of leak repair, pipe damage, and fixture installation.
- **Painting & Tiling**: Proficiency in painting and tiling.
- **Carpentry**: Hands-on experience in woodwork, including repairs, installations, and assembly.
- **General Maintenance**: Experience in ceiling work and building repairs.
- **Electrical Support**: Basic ability to assist with electrical maintenance tasks is advantageous.
- **Proficiency in Microsoft Office** for logging maintenance records, scheduling, and basic reporting.

**Physical & Technical Requirements**:

- Physically fit and capable of handling demanding tasks, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to speak and write English fluently for communication and documentation purposes.

**Additional Requirements**:

- **Valid Driver’s Licence.**:

- **Valid Passport** (for potential work-related travel to other sites within South Africa and possibly internationally).
- Willingness to travel for work-related assignments.
- **Preferred**: Safety training for working at heights or other relevant safety certifications.
