Occupational Health Nurse

The Occupational Health Nurse assesses illnesses and injuries to ensure optimal functioning of occupational health care and primary health care services for Aurum Innova in accordance with Aurum Innova health policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
**Technical Work Responsibilities**
- Perform and follow-up of pre-placement, periodical, exit medical examinations complying with relevant legislation, environment job demands and physical ability to perform as per job specification.
- Perform medical surveillance programmes by implementing periodical medicals, special medicals, biological monitoring and exit medical examination to ensure the health of employees during employment and on leaving the company to prevent unwarranted litigation.
- Perform an Occupational Health Surveillance Programme for all the companies/department according to OREP.
- Provide Primary Health Care, family planning, monitoring and referral of acute and chronic cases to relevant Health and Wellness functionaries outside the company.
- Management of injuries on duty - verify the extent of injury or occupational disease and co-ordinate the necessary health services for the rehabilitation of the injured employee in their return to work.
- Perform medical assistance to employees to determine health and safety needs of employees.
- Controlling of Occupational Health Nursing Services according to set standards and ethical codes and addressing non-compliance.
- Provide a consultancy and advisory service to line management on occupational health matters.
- Provide consultancy and advisory service to line management on matters pertaining to occupational health.
- Perform Voluntary Counselling and Testing, provide support to ensure effective implementation of HIV/AIDS treatment
- Observe protocols to ensure compliance with Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality
- Position patients safely for examinations and if necessary, adapting standard techniques depending on medical conditions associated with disability, illness or trauma
- Observing health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others
- Working effectively as a members of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that an efficient service is provided to patients
- Recording imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately
- Perform necessary administrative tasks when required
- Ensuring that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and any faults are reported
- Execute medical emergencies

**_Education_**
- Bachelor’s / Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing
- Higher National Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing
**_Experience_**
- At least 5-8 years relevant experience in an Occupational Health environment
- Advantage: 1-2 years’ experience in a Managerial position
- Advantageous _
- Diploma in Primary Health Care
- HIV/AIDS counselling certificate
**_Requirements_**
- South African Nursing Council (SANC) registration
- South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN) affiliation
- Spirometry, Audiometry and Vision Screening qualification
- Dispensing certificate
- Spirometry, Audiometry, and Vision Screening certificates
- Registration with SANC and SASOHN
- Valid Driver’s license (Code 08) and own motor vehicle
- Minimal overnight travel up to 10% by land or air if required
