Requirements
Academic qualifications
- An NQF level 10 qualification (or equivalent) is required for this position.
Work experience
- Substantial experience of supervising masters and doctoral students to completion.
- Experience of providing training in postgraduate supervision and knowledge of postgraduate curriculum design and approaches to postgraduate pedagogies would be an advantage.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the higher education regulatory environment, including the roles and responsibilities of higher education institutions, the Council on Higher Education, the Department of Higher Education and Training, and the South African Qualifications Authority
- Knowledge of the policies and funding framework related to the National Research Foundation
- Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of postgraduate supervisors and of students undertaking postgraduate degrees by research
- Knowledge of ethics principles and requirements for research
- Knowledge of key principles of curriculum design
- Knowledge of current debates and critical issues in higher education nationally and globally
- Knowledge of teaching principles for postgraduate education would be an advantage
- Knowledge of higher education on the African continent and elsewhere in the world would be an advantage
- Knowledge of the different modes and types of supervision available worldwide would be an advantage

- Ability to design educationally sound learning opportunities

- Excellent written and oral communication in English
- Time management
- Ability to manage several projects or activities in parallel
- Ability to translate identified learning needs into learning opportunities

- Ability to assist in grant writing proposals when appropriate
