A flight operations manager typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

- Ensuring that the flight crew is properly trained for their position, including maintaining credentials and certifications
- Managing all aspects of a flight operation, including planning schedules, planning routes, and monitoring weather conditions
- Working with other departments to ensure that planes are properly maintained and that company policies are followed at all times
- Ensuring that appropriate procedures are followed during all phases of flight operations. This includes preflight planning, in-flight management, post-flight analysis, and accident investigation
- Supervising flight crews to ensure that they are fully trained on all aspects of their job
- Overseeing the training of new employees to ensure that they are prepared for their position
- Handling customer service issues, including complaints or concerns about delays or other problems
- Coordinating with other companies that provide services to the airline, such as maintenance providers or catering companies
- Monitoring passenger safety and security, including screening passengers before boarding, checking IDs during flight, and providing assistance in emergency situations
