WATER AND SANITATION Principal Technician

**Requirements**

  • A relevant National Diploma in Engineering
  • Compulsory registration as a Professional Engineering

Technologist (PrTechEng)

  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience post

registration

  • Exposed to industrial working environment that includes

wastewater plants, sewer pumps stations and bulk water plants.

May be exposed to high noise levels, methane, H2S and

chlorine gasses. Will be required to wear the necessary PPE

which includes safety boots, overall, hard hats, hearing

protection and gloves

  • Physically fit and able to inspect industrial plants which includes

using ladders and climbing on to tanks

  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of relevant / applicable local authority legislation,

regulations and policies

  • Willingness to work after hours to meet project related deadlines.

Key Performance Areas

  • Improve reliability of equipment and optimise maintenance costs
  • Ensure optimum utilisation of maintenance resources and the

safety of staff

  • Ensure that the fixed asset register is kept up to date and that the

value of the water services items on the financial asset register

is correct for depreciation

  • Identify and analyse information in order to continually improve

the performance of plant and equipment

  • Ensure that the Plant and Maintenance managers are kept up to

date regarding maintenance performance, the cost of

maintenance and underperforming equipment in terms of cost

and failure rates

  • Ensure records are maintained, requests / instructions adhered

to and equipment and materials timeously procured.
