Welding Centre Coordinator

A leading Mechanical Engineering concern in Bellville wants to appoint a Welding Centre Coordinator to direct the qualifications and training of all company welders in the welding training centre. The successful person would evaluate competence over and above just qualifying welders and ensure welders employed are not only qualified but also appropriately skilled for the work required.
**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Coordinate training and qualification processes of welders in the welder training centre.
- Evaluate welder skill according to company and project requirements.
- Evaluate welder compliance to code requirements and written instructions (WPS) during qualification.
- Recommend mock-up tests to evaluate welder skill for specific projects.
- Draw up and close out welder qualification document according to relevant fabrication codes (ASME IX & AWS D1.1).
- Engage with client and third party inspectors (AIA, classification societies) regarding witnessing of qualifications, final review of test coupon and closing out and signing all relevant documentation.
- Identify and request appropriate NDT required for welder qualifications relevant to fabrication codes.
- Identify any equipment maintenance, calibration or replacement required in the training centre.
- Prepare equipment, consumables and paperwork required for qualification process.
- Manage welder qualification register for the company, which includes assigning welder stamp numbers to individuals, adding newly qualified welders/qualifications to the register, renewal and prolongation of already existing qualifications.
- Send out regular reports to stakeholders on the qualification process.
Knowledge
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Understanding and familiarity of fabrication specifications, e.g. AWS D1.1 & ASME IX
- Understanding and familiarity of NDE (MT, PT, RT, UT) methods and reports.
- Practical understanding and familiarity of welding overall. Preferably has knowledge of welding Chrome-Moly material (P91) and stainless steels.
- Red seal welder
- Assessor/moderator
- Any technical qualifications that would assist in being a multi skilled leader in the welding industry would be an advantage
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in welding, welder training or welding inspection, preferably in a senior or co-ordinating position.
- Practical welding experience would be highly beneficial.
- Working directly with clients and third-party inspection organizations.
- Reading and interpreting client and code specifications relating to welding, specifically welder qualifications.
- Working with Chrome-Moly materials (preferably P91)
General - MS Office (Excel and outlook) - English
- Valid drivers licence
