Head: Network Infrastructure

Duties/Pligte
- Managing all network installation and maintenance projects on all the campuses of Stellenbosch University;
- Managing and designing processes to assist with the successful and timely completion of projects;
- Attending regular meetings and reporting on project progress;
- Managing a professional team of managers, technicians, contractors, consultants and administrative staff, scheduling and monitoring tasks,
- and providing guidance and assistance to complete projects successfully and on time;
- Staff management regarding appointments, job evaluations, performance evaluations, leave and general staff issues;
- Managing external consultants and contractors;
- Responsible for the overall design and layout of the complete campus network infrastructure
- Developing external fibre and building network infrastructure masterplans to accomplish the overall design;
- Designing and maintaining Masterplan templates to assist in the complete design to current specifications;
- Updating the University's network specification according to international standards and practical solutions in the appropriate environments;
- Managing network specification deviation requests in the design and evaluation of alternative solutions where and when required;
- Managing funds allocated to network infrastructure projects;
- Responsible for sending out and awarding tenders for the design and installation of network infrastructure projects;
- Responsible for invoicing and payments regarding network infrastructure projects and equipment;
- Designing and updating the LAN room layout and patching schedule on PPDOC (internal database);
- Physical layout on the ArcGISsystem, design and update regarding current and future infrastructure:
Fibre infrastructure, external routes, man holes, blown-fibre ducts and fibre

Building LAN rooms, cabinets, internal route layout, network cabling and equipment.
- Bestuur alle netwerkinstallasie
- en instandhoudingsprojekte op al die kampusse van die Universiteit Stellenbosch;
- Bestuur en ontwerp prosesse om te help met die suksesvolle en tydige voltooiing van projekte;
- Gereelde bywoning van vergaderings en verslagdoening oor projekvordering;
- Bestuur van 'n professionele span bestuurders, tegnici, kontrakteurs, konsultante en administratiewe personeel, skedulering en monitering van take, en gee leiding en bystand om projekte suksesvol en betyds te voltooi; Personeel bestuur rakende aanstellings, posevaluasies, prestasie-evaluerings, verlof en algemene personeelkwessies;
- Bestuur eksterne konsultante en kontrakteurs;
- Verantwoordelik vir die algehele ontwerp en uitleg van die totale kampusnetwerkinfrastruktuur;
- Ontwikkeling van eksterne vesel en gebou netwerkinfrastruktuur-meesterplanne ten einde die oorhoofse ontwerp te bewerkstellig;
- Ontwerp en instandhouding van Meesterplan template om te help met die volledige ontwerp volgens huidige spesifikasies;
- Opdatering van die Universiteit se netwerkspesifikasies volgens internasionale standaarde en praktiese oplossings in die toepaslike omgewings;
- Toepassing van goedgekeurde spesifikasie in konstruksie-, installasie
- en instandhoudingsprojekte op kampus;
- Bestuur versoeke van netwerk spesifikasie afwykings in die ontwerp en evaluering van alternatiewe oplossings waar en wanneer nodig;
- Toepassing van die Universiteit se finansiële beleid op alle aankope en verkope;
- Bestuur fondse wat aan netwerkinfrastruktuurprojekte toegewys word;
- Verantwoordelik vir die uitstuur en toekenning van tenders vir die ontwerp en installasie van netwerkinfrastruktuurprojekte;
- Verantwoordelik vir fakturering en betalings rakende netwerkinfrastruktuurprojekte en -toerusting;
- Ontwerp en opdatering van die netwerkkamer uitleg en netwerk las skedule op PPDOC (interne databasis); Fisiese netwerk uitleg op die ArcGIS-stelsel, ontwerp en opdatering rakende huidige en toekomstige infrastruktuur:
Veselinfrastruktuur, eksterne roetes, mangate, blaas veselkanale en vesel;
Die bou van netwerkkamers, kaste, interne roete-uitleg, netwerkbekabeling en toerusting.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Four year degree/diploma in electronics, network technology or related fields;
- Five years experience in managing network installation projects, as well as a professional team of technicians, contractors, consultants and administrative staff for the establishment of computer networks according to prescribed specifications;
- Certified project management qualifications;
- Computer network certifications in design, installation, quality control and network testing;
- Computer skills related to general office management and programmes in the field of project management and network infrastructure installations;
- Thorough knowledge of computer network infrastructure and international standards.
- Vier jaar graad/diploma in elektronika, netwerktegnologie, of verwante vakgebiede;
- Vyf jaar ervaring in die bestuur van netwerk installasie projekte en 'n professionele span
