Post Number - A091 - Faculty/Department - University of the Western Cape -> Arts and Humanities -> History - Type of Position - Permanent - Full Time - Length of Contract Period - Location - Main Campus - Bellville, WC ZA (Primary) - Closing Date - 10/8/2025 **Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas** **LECTURER**:DEPARTMENT OF HISTORICAL STUDIES** **FACULTY OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES** - Facilitate learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. - Leverage their research to enhance the profile of the department in relevant academic networks and publications. - Teach in the key areas and thematics of the current curriculum. - Supervise postgraduate students at Honours and Masters level. - Actively participate in departmental, faculty, and university administrative duties e.g. coordination of modules, or act as a departmental representative on faculty committees. - Participate in community engagement. **Minimum Requirements** - A Master’s degree in History or cognate discipline; - At least one publication in an accredited journal or an equivalent recognised output; - Two to three years tertiary teaching experience relevant to African History. **Added advantages**: - A PhD (or enrolled for a PhD) and/or near completion thereof. - Evidence of teaching and supervision of postgraduate student work. - An interest in developing a research niche and new areas of the curriculum and the ability to develop a research portfolio in African History. - Passion, creativity, and public engagement with African history education. - Commitment to collegiality and collective team work. **Key competencies**: - Presentation and facilitation skills - Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment - Student-focused approach - Coaching and mentoring skills - Planning and organising skills - Computer literacy and e-learning skills - Knowledge and skills in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership
