**Position Overview**:
The Legal Assistant position is based in East London, reporting to the General Manager. The position requires the ability to interface on all levels, internally and externally. The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of Legal Assistant. This position will require some travel within South Africa as well as long hours when necessary.
**Minimum Requirements**:
- Grade 12
- Associate's degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a Bachelor's degree preferred
- 2-5 years of experience as an administrative assistant (preferably in a law firm or in a corporate legal department), legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of HR advantageous
**Responsibilities**:
- Collect, examine, and organize evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation
- Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts
- Research regulations, laws, and legal articles to assist with the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice
- Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, interviews, and depositions
- Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing systems
- Provide general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the GM’s calendar and making travel arrangements
- Assist the HR department with administration
- Ad hoc assistance
