Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) - To be confirmed - Advert Closing Date - 2/3/2025 - Job Purpose The position is critical to the overall client services operations of the University Libraries as they solely depend on the smooth running and maintenance of the IT infrastructure. The person occupying this position plays a critical role in providing: - Strategic leadership and guidance in the provision of Library IT services within CPUT Libraries. - Take responsibility for managing, planning, organizing and controlling the IT department operations within CPUT Libraries. - Contribute to the strategic objectives of the Library and implementation thereof. - Foster relationships within the CPUT environment, the academic environment, CTS, IT service providers, community organisations and public users and to promote healthy co-operation with CPUT Libraries that will enhance the link between the University and its environment. - Manage a team of library IT personnel responsible for maintenance of the library management system, overseeing of software integration projects (e.g. integration with ITS, Library Research Platforms with RIMS, Human Capital, etc), AskUs platform, the library eResearch platforms including the Institutional Repository, Data Repository, the Library Web environment, the national Higher Education Statistics database, Open Journal (OJS) and monographs publishing platforms, data visualisation integrations for statistical reporting as well as the maintenance of computer labs within all university libraries. - Contribute to and support the library’s eResearch activities at the university. The position also plays a key role in coordinating the university libraries participation in regional, national and international IT related projects that promote Open Science, scholarly and knowledge dissemination activities. - Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience **Minimum Requirements**: - 4-year degree qualification in computer science, information systems or information technology. - Minimum of 4 years’ experience with responsibilities of managing IT infrastructure. - Knowledge of Linux system administration and maintenance of Linux and PHP based systems. - Working knowledge of database systems such as MySQL, PostGres, ORACLE and SQL queries. - Minimum of 3 years’ experience with programming in PHP or Java or Python, HTML and XML. - Evidence of Web design and Web scripting experience. **Recommendations**: - Experience with Data visualization software such as MS PowerBI or Tableau - Experience with DSpace installations, maintenance and migrations - A driver’s license will be an added advantage - for travelling across CPUT campuses - Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities **The main Key Performance Areas (KPA)** - Provide vision and strategic leadership with regard to using information technology to advance library IT services - Excellent planning skills e.g. strategic planning to navigate the unpredictable and disruptive nature of library information technology - Excellent HR skills to motivate and mentor staff - Excellent communication skills - Customer focus - Team support - Project management & support - Financial management control & co-ordination - Competencies - Management of all library IT security, physical as well as data security e.g. hardware and software, access, authentication and permissions to all library systems, - Management all library IT hardware e.g. desktops, laptops, scanners, its maintenance, upgrades and record-keeping, MySQL, PostGres, ORACLE and SQL queries. - Programming experience in PHP or Java or Python, HTML and XML. - Excellent communication skills and People management skills - Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team as well as working independently - Building strategic work partnerships & relationships, - Adaptability - Conflict management, - Client/learner focus - Project management skills, - Information monitoring - Planning and organizing, - Presentation skills - Training skills, - Mentoring and coaching skills - Research skills - General Information Closing Date: 02 March 2025 **NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
