We are seeking a vibrant, safety-conscious Mechanic's Assistant to support the maintenance and upkeep of our fleet.

**Role Description**:
As a Mechanic's Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of the Wine Tram’s vehicles. You will work closely with the lead mechanic to carry out daily inspections, perform minor repairs, and contribute to preventative maintenance efforts. The role involves both mechanical and electrical work, maintaining vehicle presentation, and ensuring that all vehicles meet road safety standards. This position operates on a 7-day schedule, including weekends and public holidays, with time off provided as needed.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Mechanical & Fleet Maintenance:_
- Assist the mechanic with daily fleet inspections, including checking oil, water, brakes, and essential systems.
- Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance such as greasing, undercarriage checks, and structural maintenance.
- Conduct routine checks on wheel bearings, tires, and overall vehicle safety.
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy, attending to repairs and inspections as necessary.
- Electrical & Troubleshooting:_
- Ensure all vehicle electrical components are in proper working condition, including lights and wiring on trucks and trailers.
- Inspect and address wiring problems, trailer plugs, and other electrical issues.
- Conduct thorough spot checks on trailers and trucks, ensuring they are roadworthy and safe.
- Workshop & Equipment Maintenance:_
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the workshop.
- Perform daily equipment checks and ensure all tools are clean and stored properly after each shift.
- Report any damaged tools or equipment and ensure they are repaired or replaced.
- Administrative Duties:_
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repairs performed on vehicles.
- Maintain stock control of materials and submit weekly stock sheets.
- Report any malicious damage or material shortages and order new supplies as needed.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Must reside in the Franschhoek, Paarl, or Stellenbosch area.
- Possession of a valid Code 10 driver’s license.
- Grade 12 qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.
- Basic understanding of vehicle care and maintenance.
- Mechanical and electrical certifications are advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to follow instructions, work well within a team, and communicate in both English and Afrikaans.
