Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

The University of the Western Cape's (UWC) Information and Communication Services (ICS) Department plays a pivotal role in delivering ICT services that enable and support the University’s strategic goals and objectives. ICS, in line with growing its capability and supporting the Digital Transformation Strategy of UWC, offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Analyst Programmer in the ICS Applications Development and Support unit.

The incumbent will be responsible for development, maintenance, and support of current and new applications and solutions. They will report to and take instruction from the Team Lead of the Business Systems Unit.

The key role and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

1. Participate in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) phases with a focus on development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of applications and solutions.
2. Develop, maintain, and support existing and new applications and solutions based on business requirements.
3. Ensure that solutions and enhancements comply with guidelines and best practices.
4. Estimate the efforts involved for development and implementation and prepare Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) as required.
5. Provide 1st line incident response and resolution, or escalation.

Minimum Requirements:

1. National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) or equivalent.
2. 3 Years experience as a Software Developer dealing with Microsoft technologies specifically .Net.
3. Demonstrable experience within a structured software development environment.
4. Good communication skills – both verbal and written.
5. Analytical thinker.
6. Open to new suggestions and ideas.
7. Keen to resolve issues and keep a happy campus community.
8. Understanding of vendor service levels requirements.
9. Drive towards a speedy outcome for every ticket/issue logged.

Advantageous Requirements:

1. iOS and Android mobile app development (not required).
2. SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
3. Power BI Reporting.
4. Data modelling and cataloguing.
5. Cloud technologies.
