RPO Recruitment's client, a reputable building and civil contractor in Gauteng, is seeking a senior Estimator to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg as soon as possible.

About the Role:

  • This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Estimator to lead our client's estimating team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To prepare accurate estimates for construction projects based on drawings, specifications, and other relevant documents.
  • To analyze project costs, identify potential risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • To lead the estimating team and provide guidance and support to junior estimators.
  • To stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and new technologies.

Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Building or BTech in Civil/Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar.
  • Between 8 and 12 years' experience working as an Estimator in the construction industry, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Solid grounding in Building and Civil Engineering practices.
  • Familiar with standard conditions of contract for building and civil engineering works such as JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3, etc.
  • Aware of the importance of specifications being adhered to in the pricing and submission of tenders.
  • Familiar with standard methods of measurement for building and civil engineering works.
  • Conversant with Bills of Quantities for the construction industry.
  • Be able to read and understand drawings from the consultants, such as architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
  • Aware of labour and plant production figures, average waste factors, etc.
  • Be aware of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality issues, in practical and costing terms.
  • Be aware of site conditions for working.
  • Be aware of dealing with the local community and any costs that this may entail.
  • Must be conversant with CCS 'Candy' Construction Software.
  • Must be conversant with MS Office Suite, in particular Excel and Word.
  • Extract materials from BOQ/drawings and compile for the buying department in order to send out enquiries to the supply chain.
  • Extract subcontract packages from BOQ/drawings and compile for tender buying to send out to the supply chain.
  • Have a good working knowledge of building up worksheet rates for Direct Works such as Concrete, Formwork and Brickwork and Plasterwork.
