Position Title:Project Controls Specialist

Position Reports To:Director, Project Controls

Position Summary:

The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for implementing systems, analytical tools, and methods to monitor status of projects, performing planning and scheduling for proposals and successful projects, which require the selection and application of earned value principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of industrial construction and maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist project managers in developing project schedules, resource curve analysis, and presentation information.
  • Track and maintain detailed budgets with earned value systems.
  • Utilize analytical systems, methods, and tools to monitor projects and complete weekly and monthly progress reports to management and/or customers as needed.
  • Work with project managers on change orders based on analysis of reports and identification of potential problem areas.
  • Answer questions from project managers and senior management as a result of project analysis and status reporting.
  • Support supervision through preparation, updating, and maintenance of forecasts and schedules.
  • Develop and track detailed engineering, procurement, and construction schedules with construction management.
  • Interface with other departments to provide cost/scheduling data for items such as subcontract change requests, new work item estimates, and resolution of potential work schedule problems.
  • Develop and execute project controls execution and reporting plan for projects working with project managers and project engineers.
  • Oversee and report project schedules and milestones for deliverables.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2-5+ years of related project controls experience within the construction/engineering industry.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Procore or Primavera (P3, P5, or P6) Project Planner.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Procore, FieldWire, Microsoft Dynamics SL, and other database applications.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to select and apply resource monitoring and control techniques, such as scheduling techniques, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of the nature of petrochemical/refinery facilities, structures, and construction technology required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of earned value techniques.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Job may require periodic travel to job sites.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
