Desktop Support Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Desktop Support Technician to join our Afrihost Home Connect IT team. As a key member of our team, you will provide first-line technical support to our staff, ensuring seamless IT operations and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to end-users on-site and remotely, resolving hardware, software, and network issues efficiently.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems, applying your knowledge of Windows OS, macOS, and Office 365.
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, and peripheral devices, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Set up new employee workstations, including PCs, phones, and other required equipment, ensuring a smooth onboarding process.
  • Manage user accounts, passwords, and permissions using Entra ID and other tools, maintaining data security and integrity.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues, ensuring reliable internet access.
  • Assist with maintaining hardware inventories and IT asset management, ensuring accurate records and efficient resource allocation.
  • Provide basic IT training and guidance to employees as needed, promoting technical awareness and skills development.
Key Performance Areas:
  • Problem Resolution: Timely and effective resolution of technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent support with a positive, helpful attitude, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Documentation: Accurate recording of issues, solutions, and asset tracking, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other IT staff to ensure seamless support and efficient issue resolution.
Required Skills:
  • Proficiency in Windows OS, macOS, and Office 365, with a strong understanding of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
  • Basic knowledge of hardware components, including desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, applying problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
  • Familiarity with remote support tools and ticketing systems, ensuring efficient issue tracking and resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service mindset, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant desktop support experience, with a strong understanding of IT concepts and technologies.
  • An IT-related certification (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft MTA, or equivalent) is preferred, demonstrating technical expertise and knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen interest in learning new technologies and tools.
  • A valid driver's license, with the ability to travel to different locations as required.
