Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wine Connoisseur to join our team on board an MSC Cruises ship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional wine service in all restaurants, assist in the creation of wine menus that cater to diverse tastes and preferences.
  • Pair wines with exquisite cuisine: recommend wines that complement different styles of cooking and preparation methods.
  • Increase wine sales by providing personalized attention, applying effective selling techniques, and focusing on customer needs and expectations.
  • Ensure prompt and courteous response to guest complaints about wine service, reporting any issues to the Maître D'Hôtel.
  • Provide regular wine knowledge training sessions to dining service and bar colleagues.
  • Oversee the inventory of fine wines and produce comprehensive reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Fluent English language skills (oral and written), with additional European languages such as Italian, Portuguese, German, Spanish, or French being considered an advantage.
  • High School certificate.
  • Sommelier certification (WSET Level 3 or similar).
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Sommelier in a 4/5-star restaurant, hotel, or resort.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fine wines and premium beverages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for hospitality and customer service.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Cruise industry experience is an added asset.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is R450,000 per annum, based on market standards and industry benchmarks.
