Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Debt Recovery Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for managing a large portfolio of accounts, ensuring timely and effective collection of outstanding debts.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and colleagues alike. A high level of organizational skill, attention to detail, and proficiency in MS Excel and Word are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large portfolio of accounts, prioritizing collections based on risk and opportunity
  • Liaise with customers to negotiate payment plans and resolve queries in a timely manner
  • Prepare and send demand letters, invoices, and other correspondence as required
  • Perform debt reconciliation and aged analysis to identify areas for improvement
  • Capture and allocate payments accurately, requesting remittance advice as needed
  • Batch input discounts, rebates, and advertising to process on accounts
  • Put accounts on credit stop if payment is not received by the 7th of each month, notifying sales representatives accordingly
  • Prepare final letters of demand within 5 days of the grace period if payment is still not received
  • Remove accounts from credit stop once payment has been made
  • Email or fax full general ledgers if there are discrepancies on customer accounts
  • Request copies of claim forms from customers
  • Send claim documents to sales representatives to ensure stock is picked up and credited
  • Ensure credit notes are processed correctly and allocated accordingly
  • Perform trade references
  • Scan credit applications onto the system and update customer details
  • Fax or email invoices, PODs, credit notes, or statements on request
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing and administration

Required Skills and Qualifications

A minimum of 10-15 years' experience in debt recovery, preferably in a supervisory or management role. Matric Certificate (Grade 12) and bookkeeping/financial tertiary qualifications are essential. Proficiency in Kerridge K8 software and advanced MS Excel and Word skills are advantageous. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
