Medical Director

As a Medical Director at Deka Minas, you will be responsible for setting the quality agenda of medical care and services, managing relationships among physician activities, and leading the development of clinical quality initiatives. You will chair key medical staff committees, drive continuous improvement of quality, and promote passion for hospital care across sites.

- Align hospital vision with clinical goals, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Lead by example, communicating effectively through actions, decision-making, and mentorship.
- Develop and promote the organization's values, recognizing staff who exemplify them.
- Ensure finest medical outcomes, meeting or exceeding national and World Health Organization's recognized clinical benchmarks.
LEADERSHIP:
- Represent the organization professionally, providing a positive role model for staff.
- Maintain effective leadership behavior, utilizing negotiating, listening, and persuading skills to gain employee buy-in.
- Remain positive and supportive of changes in strategic initiatives, departmental or service changes.
- Be familiar with administrative policies and procedures, practicing according to standards and guidelines.
- Effectively manage work time and priorities, supervising staff, and acknowledging their contributions.
SUPERVISION & DEVELOPMENT OF STAFF:
- Assure staff development through education and mentorship, promoting autonomy and self-accountability.
- Convey a strong sense of advocacy and support for staff, devising mechanisms for recognition.
- Round with staff monthly to discuss successes, areas for growth, and opportunities for recognition.
- Assess staff educational needs yearly, developing individual plans for development.
CONTINUOUS LEARNING & TEACHING:
- Assure ongoing clinical excellence by identifying learning needs and policy clarifications.
- Provide learning opportunities through journal articles, in-service topics, and educational sessions.
- Develop a plan for distributing educational opportunities among staff, teaching effectively.
- Develop a personal learning plan, seeking to increase knowledge through reading, attending in-services, and conferences.
ACCESS, PROVIDER & COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
- Assure timely access to programs and care through collaboration with referral and admission processes.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the physician community, promoting hospital care.
- Maintain community presence and visibility, providing positive ambassadorship for the Hospital.
- Participate with the marketing team to develop strategies for marketing hospital services to community physicians.
PROVISION OF MEDICAL CARE:
- Serve as Medical Director, assuring effective medical care to hospital patients.
- Establish and participate in a timely process of establishing patient benefit eligibility.
- Effectively communicate with issues regarding medical treatment and overall goals of care.
- Actively participate in team meetings, respecting complex treatment decisions and acting as a staff liaison.
PLANNING & REPORTING:
- Involves staff in the development of challenging goals yearly.
- Develops a strategic/operational plan for the medical department yearly.
- Provides quarterly written updates to the CEO on the status of the strategic/operational plan.
- Provides quarterly updates to staff on the status of the team's strategic/operation plan goals.
Education/Licensure:
- Medical degree from an accredited university or medical school.
- Board certification in primary specialty is required.
- Current medical license.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum progressive 5 years' experience in healthcare, specifically medical services management.
- Previous experience in healthcare management, including quality and utilization management, is preferred.
- Previous experience with TQM principles is preferred.
