Position Overview:

As a Trade Marketing Associate, you will collaborate closely with the Channel Manager to devise competitive channel strategies, engage in business planning, and ensure the effective execution of strategic initiatives within the Township trade channels. Your role will involve working alongside key business partners to formulate sustainable and impactful channel strategies tailored for the Township Trade. The primary focus will be on retail outlets and associated RTM/RTC frameworks, with extensive collaboration with other channel stakeholders to implement a comprehensive JTI 360 RTC strategy that prioritizes customer and consumer-centric cross-channel initiatives. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of essential Trade Marketing practices, primarily based at headquarters, providing necessary support to national, regional, and cross-functional departments through effective collaboration and planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Channel Strategy and Business Planning: You will take full ownership of this key performance indicator (KPI).
    Scope: Collaboratively develop long-term strategic channel and business plans with the Channel Manager. Manage KPIs, evaluate performance, and report findings. Lead the development and planning of JTI's National Informal Trade strategy, integrating independent trade and Township geography. The strategic planning process will be spearheaded by the Channel Manager, with significant contributions from the Trade Marketing Associate, supported by a cross-functional team to create a competitive and benchmarked business plan.
  • Commercial Planning for Channels: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Create a documented strategic 360 plan aligned with all stakeholders. The channel management team will require a formal documented strategic plan that includes an approved commercial and RTM plan, validated through the ASP Process. Focus on commercial reporting and performance tracking, with a strong emphasis on cycle planning and deliverables.
  • Route to Market: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Support and oversee a collaborative Sales and Trade Marketing national RTM strategy based on JTI's Hybrid Model. Jointly develop and engage with key stakeholders on our RTM plan and structure for township-related trade channels, ensuring alignment with national structures while adapting to regional dynamics.
  • Customer Relationship Management: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Establish and enhance a formal CRM framework to position JTI as the trade partner of choice. Continuously develop and benchmark services to ensure JTI stands out as a preferred trade partner through value-added services and commercial offerings. Collaborate closely with other channel/account stakeholders to create a cohesive cross-channel customer engagement framework.
  • Brand and Trade Activation: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Develop a competitive trade activation plan to meet the brand activation needs of the channels. Plan, execute, and benchmark a robust trade activation strategy involving key cross-functional stakeholders. Ensure a balanced approach to push and pull strategies, brand communication, and activation efforts directed at consumers and customer partnerships to foster long-term mutually beneficial relationships at the Point of Purchase (POC).
  • Regional Strategic Planning: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Assist in the development of strategic regional plans that support the RTC strategy. Collaborate with national and regional stakeholders to formulate specific regional trade and brand plans through a structured commercial process. Work strategically with teams and regional custodians.
  • Trade Insights and Analysis: You will take full ownership of this KPI.
    Scope: Standardize, coordinate, and report on trade analysis templates while providing insights to drive national and regional business plans. Utilize trade and consumer data to support cross-functional teams in guiding JTI's business plans and execution strategies. Provide relevant insights to facilitate knowledge transfer and develop successful plans. Monitor performance and adjust strategies as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Business or Marketing
  • 5+ years of experience in FMCG, focusing on channel and trade strategy development, with a solid understanding of the Route to Consumer model, including brand and trade activation.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Strong skills in MS Office, particularly MS Excel
  • Business Acumen, Project Management, Strategic Thinking, Professionalism, Persuasive Ability, High Energy Levels, Excellence in Execution, Independence, and Proactivity
