Surgical Care Specialist

We are currently recruiting for a registered theatre nurse who is passionate about providing exceptional patient care and has the necessary skills and experience to thrive in a busy theatre environment.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the holistic care of patients, promoting cost-effective, safe, and quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies.
- Maintain the principles of aseptic technique when opening packs and consumables, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Help control patient and hospital costs through the correct, safe, and economical use of supplies and equipment, promoting a culture of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Establish effective communication with patients regarding their care, addressing their concerns and needs in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
- Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors, fostering a positive and welcoming environment for all.
- Ensure proper evidence-based nursing care, adhering to the latest research and guidelines in the field.
- Develop and implement appropriate nursing care plans for patients, addressing their unique needs and requirements.
- Communicate with healthcare practitioners regarding any change in health status, ensuring seamless care coordination and transitions.
- Comply with documentation policy, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of patient care and treatment.
- Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately, promoting a culture of accountability and transparency.
- Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act, identifying and mitigating potential hazards and risks.
- Assume responsibility for own personal and professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest best practices and advancements in the field.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR/BLS/Anesthetic refresher course, ensuring a high level of expertise in emergency response and patient care.
- Project a positive professional image, representing Stethoscope SA with integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
- Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues, and doctors, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of operating rooms, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, providing support and guidance as needed.
- Monitor patients during surgery and post-operative recovery, providing close attention and care to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
- Enrolled Nurse qualification.
- Current registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Minimum of 5 years as registered Nurse.
- Scrub nursing experience.
- Floor nurse and Anaesthetic experience.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient safety.
- Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in this highly specialized field.
- Knowledge of Infection Control & Prevention.
- Problem-solving, analysis, and judgement.
- Resilience.
- Excellent verbal & written communication and presentation.
- Customer responsiveness.
- Professional flexibility in working hours while supporting daily business hours.
