Job Title: Assistant Payroll Accountant

Reporting to: Payroll Manager / Payroll Accountant

Job Summary: The Assistant Payroll Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll-related financial transactions. This role works closely with the payroll and finance teams to guarantee payroll data is correctly recorded, reconciled, and reported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the payroll team in ensuring correct payroll processing, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and taxes, to guarantee accurate financial records.
  • Assist with reconciling payroll accounts with the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of payroll transactions and maintaining a high level of financial integrity.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing relevant payroll accounting documentation and explanations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees, offering clear and accurate information regarding payroll accounting matters to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Working towards or holding a degree in Finance (BCom or equivalent) to ensure a solid understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll accounting, finance, or general accounting, with a proven track record of financial accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with accounting software, with experience with payroll systems (e.g. Sage 300) being advantageous to ensure seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy to ensure financial records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to explain payroll accounting concepts clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism to maintain confidentiality and trust.
