Job Title: Assistant Payroll Accountant

Reporting to: Payroll Manager / Payroll Accountant

Location: Cape Town

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Payroll Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related financial transactions. This role works closely with payroll and finance teams to guarantee payroll data is correctly recorded, reconciled, and reported.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the payroll team in reconciling payroll accounts with the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of payroll transactions.
  • Assist with payroll processing, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and taxes.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing relevant payroll accounting documentation and explanations.
  • Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees, offering clear and accurate information regarding payroll accounting matters.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Working towards or holding a degree in Finance (BCom or equivalent).
  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll accounting, finance, or general accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with accounting software; experience with payroll systems (e.g. Sage 300) is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, able to explain payroll accounting concepts clearly.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism.
