Medical Technologist Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team for a 3-month fixed-term contract in the Microbiology/Clinical Pathology discipline.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and monitor diagnostic analyses of patient specimens to provide precise laboratory test results.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety measures and perform preventive equipment maintenance as per schedule.
  • Record temperature readings and equipment maintenance according to SOPs and uphold compliance with in-lab Turnaround Time (TAT) and quality standards.
  • Efficiently manage stock control on the bench and receive, assess, and perform tests on samples in accordance with SOPs.
  • Verify test results and complete corrective actions and troubleshooting logs.
  • Run Instrument Quality Controls (IQC) and External Quality Assurance (EQA) and record Non-Compliance (NC) and customer complaints.
  • Print and action Overdue and Pending Lists and assess results, special stains, and interpretation of results.
Requirements & Key Competencies:
  • National Diploma: Biomedical Technology or Bachelor of Health Science: Laboratory Science.
  • HPCSA registration as a Medical Technologist in Microbiology/Clinical Pathology.
  • 0-3 years' experience, including internship.
  • Proficiency in sampling and analysis of blood, tissue, and body fluids.
  • Knowledge of specialized instrumentation usage and familiarity with infection control and sterilization protocols.
  • Accurate interpretation of results and strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) and computer literacy.
  • Time management and evaluation skills.
