Job Summary:

To manage commercial sites effectively, ensuring staff, equipment, client liaison, and financial performance are all under control. Provide guidance and training to less experienced Contract Managers on site requirements, process flow, internal systems, and staff development. Assist in acting as the Operations Manager when required.


Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

  • Support Contract Managers during site start-ups
  • Assist the Operations Manager with site financial budgets
  • Oversee procurement, maintenance, and equipment utilization at sites
  • Implement and maintain service level agreements with clients
  • Develop strategic planning to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Manage the financial implications of stock, consumables, and material procurement
  • Oversee site cleanliness, productivity, and operational activity with Contract Managers

Monthly and Weekly Reports:

  • Review and approve Contract Managers' KPI reports
  • Verify site inspection reports to ensure compliance
  • Confirm ad-hoc billing to prevent delays
  • Use manifests for collection bookings

Transportation:

  • Resolve daily transportation issues with the Regional Transport Manager
  • Escalate issues to the Operations Manager if necessary

Client Relations:

  • Strategically manage client relationships for customer satisfaction
  • Address problems promptly and improve service levels
  • Visit sites regularly to monitor progress and provide feedback
  • Meet with clients monthly to discuss issues and improvements

Personnel Management:

  • Induct and train staff according to company policies
  • Train newly appointed Contract Managers
  • Manage staff appointments and working permits
  • Manage absences and provide relief staff when needed
  • Train staff to ensure maximum productivity and profit
  • Address staff grievances and handle disciplinary actions

Administration Responsibilities:

  • Submit daily reports on absences, problems, and relief staff
  • Provide weekly reports on site visits, staff leave, and operational feedback
  • Submit monthly reports on site inspections, KPIs, appointments, and commercial asset registers

SHEQ Responsibilities:

  • Ensure staff have necessary PPE and training on SHEQ regulations
  • Update and maintain site SHEQ files
  • Manage incidents and accidents according to company policies
  • Ensure sites comply with SHEQ policies and initiatives

Requirements:

  • Minimum grade 12 or matric, with a tertiary qualification an advantage
  • Experience in waste management or recycling
  • Valid driver's license
  • Mid-level management skills
  • 7 years of working experience
  • Computer literacy
