Senior Claims Manager Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Claims Manager to join our team at Armstrong Appointments. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled claims professional to take on a leadership role and drive the success of our clients.
Job Summary
The Senior Claims Manager will be responsible for managing a broad portfolio of general property, engineering, mining, casualty/financial lines claims. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external experts.
Main Responsibilities
- Claim Handling and Customer Service: Deliver high-quality claim handling and customer services to ensure timely and effective resolution of claims.
- Technical Authority: Handle claims of varying severity within defined technical authority, including coverage review, fact investigation, loss evaluation, and designing and executing on an appropriate claim resolution strategy.
- Reserves Management: Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves in accordance with Claims Handling Expectations and Guidelines.
- Diary Management: Proactive diary management to drive claims toward a timely resolution.
- Settlement Negotiation: Develop and implement an appropriate strategy for fair claim resolution, including settlement negotiation where needed.
- Expert and Vendor Management: Select, direct, and manage external experts and vendors, including working with experts to set appropriate budgets and effectively manage costs.
- Internal Stakeholder Communication: Regularly provide actionable claims insights and input to internal stakeholders, including underwriters, sales, and risk engineering.
- Contractual Wording and Risk Assessments: Assist Underwriting and others with contractual wording and risk assessments associated with particular policies or risks.
- Loss Potential Awareness: Keep Claim Management and Internal Stakeholders aware of loss potential and material claim developments, consistent with the Claim Handling Expectations and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Reporting and Compliance: Provide accurate information and data for Claims' reporting. Comply with internal governance, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
To succeed as a Senior Claims Manager, you will need:
- Minimum 10 Years of Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in the claims or insurance industry, preferably in the primary insurance market.
- Strong Technical Background: A strong technical background in claims handling, with knowledge of insurance principles and practices.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external experts.
- Proactive Problem-Solving: A proactive problem-solving approach, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Continuous Learning: A desire to learn and develop as a person and as an insurance professional, with a commitment to ongoing education and training.
Estimated Salary: R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum, depending on experience.
