Job Title: Receiving Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Receiving Manager to join our team at Riseup Management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full day-to-day function of the Receiving/Imports operation.
  • Oversee a team of 30-60 staff members, excluding casual labor, and enforce the company's disciplinary code.
  • Handle all disciplinary aspects related to staff within the operation.
  • Manage shift structures, including weekly updates and adjustments.
  • Draft and implement new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when gaps in Receiving or Operations are identified.
  • Monitor and manage overtime work within budgetary allowances.
  • Maintain all overtime schedules and spreadsheets for the entire operation across all departments.
  • Implement and maintain cost-saving initiatives to drive profitability.
  • Report on additional operations items and ensure clear communication for recovery of charges.
  • Monitor additional schedules per customer for handling, wrapping, and re-working aspects.
  • Handle outsourced staffing portfolios for operational staff requirements.
  • Book required unpack teams daily for the operation.
  • Issue monthly and daily Purchase Orders (POs) to labor service providers based on utilization and verification of hours.
  • Book and monitor servicing and repairs within the MHE fleet.
  • Issue respective POs for servicing and maintenance of MHE to service providers and monitor additional hours beyond service contracts.
  • Report on overall operational capacities and volumes daily.
  • Motivate the team to perform and constantly push operations to achieve desired volumes and targets.
  • Monitor staff performances and focus on upskilling.
  • Order and maintain stock levels of consumables for facility operations and ensure timely orders for delivery.
  • Conduct toolbox talks with staff on various subjects and concerns that arise.
  • Complete OHS/SHEQ checklists required for the operations on site.
  • Maintain excellent records for all aspects of the operation.
  • Provide general assistance to the Operations Manager as necessary and as requirements arise.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12/Matric certificate.
  • Preferable to have tertiary education/qualification within the Supply Chain and Logistics industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within an import/export warehousing facility, with a minimum of 3 years responsible for a Receiving operation involving container unpacks.
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience required.
  • SA Driver's license and own vehicle for transport to and from work, which is non-negotiable and must be maintained.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with handling and receipt of different commodities.
  • Understanding of unpack cautions and requirements around HAZ commodities.
  • SHE/OHS site monitoring for Receiving Operations.
  • Availability to work weekends and extra hours as and when operations require it.
  • High level of industrial relations knowledge required and must have the ability to discipline staff.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and freight management systems is required.
  • High level of attention to detail is required.
  • Must be a presentable/neat person and of sober habits.
Skills:
  • An in-depth knowledge of Warehouse Management systems.
  • Managerial skills are key, with the ability to manage a large team of Operations staff.
  • Full understanding of Port detentions and shipping lines demurrage free days.
  • Full understanding of Import operations based on shipping line empty turn-in criteria.
  • Must be self-driven and able to work unsupervised.
  • Must be able to prioritize Imports receiving and container unpacks.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Understanding of unpack pack keys for palletizing requirements.
  • Shift structures understanding in various capacities.
  • Understanding of all MHE types and accessories utilized within the receiving operations.
  • Full maintenance responsibility for the Receiving and Despatch MHE portfolio.
  • Maintaining of all or any operational reporting schedules.
  • Must be a 100% Team Player and motivate the Ops teams to perform.
  • Full knowledge of disciplinary processes and procedures and must lead by example.
  • Advanced understanding of consumables involved within a receiving operation.
  • Understanding of various unpack operations and varied commodity requirements.
  • HAZ/SHEQ/OHS knowledge for unpack operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Eloquent in all aspects of communication, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in the English language, with subordinates and senior management.
