Technical Services Manager Job Description

At Affirmative Portfolios, we are seeking a highly skilled Technical Services Manager to join our team in Richards Bay and Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively managing all technical and related services at our hospitals, including risks related to infrastructure and assets, and all plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Facilities Management: Manage all hospital facilities, clinical infrastructure, and assets to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  2. Staff Management: Lead and manage all staff in the Technical Department to ensure they have the necessary skills and training to perform their duties effectively.
  3. Resource Planning: Ensure proper planning of resources in accordance with ISO 55000 principles to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  4. Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities for nursing, pharmacy, admin, and management staff on technical-related issues.
  5. Purchasing and Expenditure: Manage technical-related purchasing and expenditure to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  6. Contractor Management: Manage contractors' performance to ensure they meet the required standards and expectations.
  7. Policy Implementation: Implement Group policy and procedures to manage and maintain hospital facilities and assets.
  8. Risk Management: Enforce Group policies and procedures to staff members and contractors to mitigate all risks.
  9. Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other related legislation.
  10. Quality Assurance: Ensure quality and safety assurance during and after completion of contracts as the safety custodian.
  11. Project Management: Responsible for project management and engineering services of all small building projects at site.
  12. Financial Management: Responsible for the financial performance and budget of the Technical Department.
  13. Asset Management: Custodian of the asset management database on the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) ensuring reliability and validity of all data.
  14. Maintenance Management: Management of the maintenance management system, ensuring that all equipment risks are managed and that all repairs and maintenance are conducted as required.
  15. Communication: Interact in a professional manner with colleagues, staff, and clients.
  16. Reporting: Prepare monthly reports and ad-hoc reports on staff, contractors, facilities, and assets of the hospital.
  17. Meetings and Interactions: Attend Hospital, Regional, and National meetings as well as interdepartmental interaction with a focus on nursing, health and safety, and infection control.
  18. Professional Conduct: Ensure professional technical conduct at all times.
  19. Training and Succession Planning: In consultation with HR Manager, develop training and succession plans to ensure that staff are trained to the statutory competency requirements for their specific roles.

Qualifications:

A relevant 4-year Bachelor's Degree/B Tech Degree qualification equivalent to a NQF level 7 in the fields of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Work Experience:

  1. 1 year post-graduate patient care experience in an operational environment would be beneficial.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years applicable technical and managerial experience.
  3. Experience in Asset Management and Financial Management.
  4. Experience in both electrical and mechanical engineering in the hospital and hospitality industry would be advantageous.
  5. Previous experience in project management.
  6. Any hospital or hospitality experience will be an added advantage.
