O'Brien Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced Service Department Director to lead their workshop and service team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing service processes, staff leadership, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Leadership & Performance Management
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing the service team to foster a culture of excellence.
  • Effective communication and collaboration between departments are crucial for success.
  • The director will manage and control all service processes to achieve outstanding performance.
  • Weekly production meetings and regular toolbox talks will be conducted to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • The director will keep senior management updated on workshop progress and developments.
  • Addressing and coordinating training and development needs for staff will be essential.

Service/Project Execution

  • The Service Department Director will provide instructions for diagnostic work and support technicians with technical matters.
  • Promoting safety and best practices when handling machinery is vital.
  • A clean, safe, and efficient work environment must be maintained in line with SHEQ and ISO standards.
  • The director will manage all customer service interactions, resolving issues swiftly and effectively.
  • All service documentation and reports must be accurately maintained.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to interact with staff, customers, and service providers.
  • The director will delegate tasks, monitor project progress, and maintain excellent customer service standards.

Business Planning & Budgeting

  • The Service Department Director will assist in controlling service department expenditures and selecting service providers.
  • Departmental budget targets and national service KPIs must be achieved.

Requirements

  • A Grade 12 or equivalent qualification is required.
  • A Diesel/Earthmoving Equipment trade or related trade test certificate is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-trade qualified experience is needed.
  • Experience in service management, specifically with Earthmoving Equipment, is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) is required.
  • A strong technical aptitude and ability to communicate at all levels are necessary.
  • Adherence to SHE requirements and company standards is crucial.
  • A highly disciplined, self-motivated individual capable of balancing strategic and operational responsibilities is required.
  • Fluency in both English and Afrikaans is necessary where applicable.
