Executive Manufacturing Operations Director

Kontak Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Executive Manufacturing Operations Director to lead our client's furniture creation division.

This role requires a strong leader with a proven track record of implementing processes that deliver a strong return on investment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing environment machinery, including CNC programming, as well as scheduling machine maintenance and repairs.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the team on the factory floor, identifying areas for improvement and actively assisting in daily operations. With an experienced and skilled team already in place, the focus will be on driving efficiencies, enhancing processes, and addressing any production challenges with innovative solutions to take the division to the next level.

Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Relevant Diploma/ Degree in Engineering or Production/Operations Management would be advantageous
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment of which a minimum of 5 years' experience in a management role
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing environment machinery
  • Ability to programme CNC Machines
  • Sound experience understanding the production process and function and applying continuous improvement processes
  • Unwavering focus on delivering results and problem-solving
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations
Responsibilities:Production:
  • Manage production process to achieve targets most efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Optimise production processes, reduce waste, and minimise downtime
  • Set goals, objectives, and standards of measurement for the factory
  • Meet delivery dates (OTIF) and communicate with planning
Product Design and Development:
  • Oversee the design team through the new product development process
  • Ensure compatibility with production methods and product quality and durability
  • Drive timelines and follow up on outsourced components
  • Ensure prototypes are delivered to requested specifications
  • Update models, shop drawings, bill of materials, and CNC programs to reflect the finished product
  • Check and approve product costing
Quality Control:
  • Ensure products manufactured meet required quality standards
  • Monitor and maintain quality control measures throughout the production process
  • Address and resolve any quality issues promptly
Plant:
  • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the factory
  • Manage inventory, schedule maintenance and repairs, and ensure all equipment functions optimally
  • Investigate and evaluate events for cost benefit and suitability
  • Recommend capex requirements for cost benefit and suitability
Financial:
  • In collaboration with CEO, CFO, and Financial Accountant set and manage budgets, financial goals, and monitor financial performance
  • Analyse production costs, identify areas for cost savings, and make strategic financial decisions to improve overall profitability
Staff Management:
  • Manage and lead the team of employees in the factory
  • Ensure staff is trained, motivated, and working efficiently
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to ensure teams are working effectively
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and high performance
Health and Safety:
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety protocols and procedures
  • Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations
