Santam, a leading short-term insurer in South Africa, seeks an experienced Cybersecurity Architect to join its team. This senior role is based in the Business Information and Technology Services (BITS) department, which is responsible for developing and implementing security strategies to protect global assets.

About the Role:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive application security strategies to mitigate threats and manage risk.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure secure architecture and design principles are applied throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest application security threats and vulnerabilities to maintain a proactive approach to security.
  • Participate in Group Information Security Programme (GISP) initiatives to drive a culture of security awareness within the organization.
  • Provide regular feedback to management on Group-wide application security issues and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding security matters.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 15 years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion of that in an architectural position focusing on cybersecurity within complex organizations, preferably in the financial services sector.
  • Strong understanding of integration between Workstations and Network/Servers, as well as knowledge of common and obscure vulnerabilities in various technologies.

Additional Competencies and Skills:

  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, and emerging ones like Kotlin.
  • Understanding of web technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular, and web application security concepts.
  • Experience with mobile development, including security expertise in Android, iOS, and cross-platform frameworks like Flutter.
  • Deep grasp of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP and their security implications.
  • Ability to understand and apply secure coding practices and best practices for different languages and frameworks.

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is around R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum, depending on experience. Santam offers a competitive benefits package, including medical aid, retirement fund contributions, and paid leave.
