Santam BITS is seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Principal Application Security Architect in the Business Information and Technology Services (BITS) department, based in the Western Cape or Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive application security strategy.
  • Lead threat mitigation and risk management initiatives.
  • Design and implement secure architectures.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and code reviews.
  • Secure the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with development teams and stakeholders.
  • Protect global assets and understand regional requirements.
  • Lead application security assessments and ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Champion a 'security by design' culture.
  • Develop and maintain application security documentation.
  • Develop and manage risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work with security teams to stay up-to-date on the latest threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Respond to security incidents and manage cyber crises.
  • Participate in Group Information Security Programme (GISP) initiatives.
  • Contribute to application security, infrastructure security, and cybersecurity education.
  • Provide regular feedback to Santam Manco on group-wide application security issues.
  • Communicate effectively with management and users regarding application security matters.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify areas for awareness or targeted education.
  • Review and respond to audit findings.
  • Produce required application security reports.
  • Ensure security gates are integrated into the SDLC/Agile methodology.
  • Participate in industry bodies and escalate new or escalating cybersecurity risks.
  • Engage with application owners and the Group Cyber Security Centre (GCSC) Operations Team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Recognised Cyber Security Certification(s) (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH).
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion in an architectural position focusing on cybersecurity.
