About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our Property, Science, Industry and Technology team in Durban, South Africa. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for leading the structural engineering design of projects, working closely with colleagues across the continent and region.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from conceptual design to completion, and will be responsible for managing the production of models, drawings, reports, and specifications to budgets and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the structural engineering design of projects, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to carry out hands-on design for a variety of projects, including appropriate use of technical analysis and design software packages.
  • Contribute across multiple projects with different design teams, liaising with collaborators and clients from inception to completion.
  • Manage the production of models, drawings, reports, and specifications to budgets and deadlines, analysing, designing, specifying, and report writing.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of others, including other disciplines and in-house specialists, providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the team.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including contributing to bids.
  • Undertake project and team administration duties, including planning and monitoring the time of others.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of industry experience.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA or equivalent.
  • Strong technical experience in structural engineering, with a broad range of hands-on experience of different structural forms, construction materials, design stages, and project sectors.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, with an appreciation for the role and interactions of all engineering services required to execute a project.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate options, consequences, and implications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present and explain technical information to colleagues and clients.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to mentor and develop junior staff.
