Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Blood Bank Specialist to join our team at the South African National Blood Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine testing functions in blood banks, including compatibility, post-natal, and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. They will also possess excellent communication skills and be able to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine testing functions in blood banks, including compatibility, post-natal, and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.
  • Check and verify test results performed by registered technicians, trainee technicians, and student technologists.
  • Assist supervisors with training and competency assessments.
  • Monitor equipment and instrumentation to ensure they are in working order.

Requirements
  • HPCSA Registered Biomedical Technician/Technologist (Blood Transfusion).
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
