Job Description Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled General Laboratory Assistant to support the blood bank's operations at the Thelle Mogoerane Blood Bank.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing, delivering, and collecting hampers according to standard operating procedures. You will also assist with routine bio-hazardous waste disposal and cleaning duties, ensuring compliance with relevant SOPs.

Key Performance Areas

KPA 1: Blood Preparation

  1. Prepare and deliver hampers according to SOPs and schedule.
  2. Check hampers for unused products and report any discrepancies.
  3. Pack blood and blood product stocks received into appropriate storage based on expiry date.
  4. Check, count, and arrange blood stocks daily.

KPA 2: Waste Disposal

  1. Dispose of waste according to SOP and maintain traceability documentation.
  2. Collect and place medical waste containers in designated areas for disposal.

KPA 3: Laboratory Tasks

  1. Prepare disinfectant solutions and replenish test tubes.
  2. Clean laboratory equipment and areas according to SOP.
  3. Defrost and clean refrigerators and freezers as per schedule.

KPA 4: SHEQ Compliance

  1. Assist with compliance to SOPs and legislative requirements.

KPA 5: General Duties

  1. Perform other job-related duties as required.
  2. Complete the Laboratory Assistants course within the specified time.
