Laboratory Operations Support

Join our team as a General Laboratory Assistant and support the blood bank's operations at the Thelle Mogoerane Blood Bank.

You will be responsible for preparing, delivering, and collecting hampers according to standard operating procedures. Additionally, you will assist with routine bio-hazardous waste disposal and cleaning duties, ensuring compliance with relevant SOPs.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

KPA 1: Blood Hampers and Supplies

  1. Prepare and deliver hampers according to SOPs and schedule.
  2. Check hampers for unused products and report any discrepancies.
  3. Pack blood and blood product stocks received into appropriate storage based on expiry date.
  4. Check, count, and arrange blood stocks daily.

KPA 2: Waste Management and Control

  1. Dispose of waste according to SOP and maintain traceability documentation.
  2. Collect and place medical waste containers in designated areas for disposal.

KPA 3: Laboratory Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Prepare disinfectant solutions and replenish test tubes.
  2. Clean laboratory equipment and areas according to SOP.
  3. Defrost and clean refrigerators and freezers as per schedule.

KPA 4: SHEQ Compliance and Governance

  1. Assist with compliance to SOPs and legislative requirements.

KPA 5: General Administration and Development

  1. Perform other job-related duties as required.
  2. Complete the Laboratory Assistants course within the specified time.
Education and Skills Requirements

A Grade 12 certificate with Maths and one Science subject is required. Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is also essential.
