Role Overview:
The Principal plays a crucial role in enhancing student performance by leading a dedicated team of educators. This position involves setting a clear vision for academic excellence and implementing strategic initiatives to engage staff, families, and the broader community in achieving that vision. The Principal works closely with the Assistant Principal(s) and School Operations Manager to maintain high standards for school culture, student outcomes, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a rigorous instructional program that fosters mastery of content, encourages creative problem-solving, and promotes character development.
- Utilize both quantitative and qualitative data to inform instructional decisions and drive school improvement.
- Establish and nurture a school culture that prioritizes high achievement, strong character, and a passion for learning.
- Set ambitious academic and behavioral goals, holding staff and students accountable for meeting these expectations.
- Oversee student behavior management and implement individualized plans for students who struggle to meet behavioral standards.
- Encourage a culture of self-reflection and continuous improvement among staff.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for educators through regular observations and coaching sessions.
- Conduct evaluations of staff performance to support their professional growth and leadership development.
- Foster a supportive work environment where staff feel valued and appreciated.
- Build strong relationships with parents, families, and the community to enhance student achievement.
- Lead school-wide community events, engaging the school leadership team, teachers, and parents in support of these initiatives.
- Manage the Assistant Principal(s) and guide their development within the SPARK leadership framework.
- Assist in budget preparation and management alongside the School Operations Manager.
- Participate in the recruitment of new staff members and oversee their onboarding process.
- Communicate policies and procedures effectively to all stakeholders.
- Implement disciplinary policies and procedures consistently.
- Engage actively in staff development opportunities as part of the SPARK Schools team.
- Exhibit professionalism at all SPARK Schools events and interactions with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English.
- Clear criminal record.
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Completed or PGCE degree.
- SACE registration.
Experience:
- Experience managing or working with primary school-aged children.
- A minimum of 3-4 years of outstanding classroom instruction.
- Previous leadership experience in an educational setting.
- Familiarity with South African labor laws.
